Club News & Events 09 November 2018
Come along this Sunday for a "free style" run or walk around some of the more picturesque areas of Auckland City. Plan on returning to the Greys Ave YMCA by 10am because we are due to stage a shared morning tea and First Time Marathoners certificates presentation at 10.30am. Let's see some of your baking skills put to good use and spoil some of our wonderful achievers. Bring along your Powerade bracelet if you are keen to give the waterfront course a blast. Congratulations to all our half and full www.auckland marathon finishes. Ciaran Faherty was 4th in the marathon and Matt Henderson romped home in under 3hrs. Well done to everyone who pumped out a PB performance or were age group place getters, and to those Pacers who provided guidance to so many people. Good work to our members who were raising money for one of the worthy charities. Thank you to Isla and our awesome volunteers for helping with the morning tea at the kindergarten rooms and to the massage guys. Deen Abu Barkar for the beer samples and Alaina, Vicky and Karen doing a great job on the barbeque. Finally, a chance to sit down and swap a few stories about the day's adventure.
Nice to see so many people remain to help to celebrate some milestone Marathon finishers. Thank you to Kiri Price, Mel, Ingrid & Karen and Graeme Tindall for being so organised with this. Congratulations on 300 marathons for Malcolm Gray, 100 Rebecca Edgecombe and 50 Sue Meltzer.
Members will enjoy little rest, following the Auckland Marathon weekend, by participating in the last Club Championship event for the year. Kerikeri-Half-Marathon is on Saturday 17th as is the Queenstown-Marathon.co.nz Kerikeri is a fast course and with that good base fitness, you could look to post a very respectable time. We won't mention about the first 6.5km of undulations and hills because that is often glossed over in the marketing spiel.
Every Thursday evening in the Auckland Domain we have the 10K Summer Series . Head along to the old Grandstand where walkers start 5.30 am and runners 6 pm. Include in your schedule, our end of season fun GibPat pairs event, staged at the Cornwall Park Sports Association Clubrooms on Sunday December 16.
