'WhyWomenRun' Womens Event

2017 Event Information

Sunday 14 May 2017. 5 km, 10 km & junior dash.

Why do women run? For fitness, for fun, for freedom! When you're running your time is your own and WhyWomenRun wants to help you celebrate that. This run's for you.

The 38th annual Y Women's Event - WhyWomenRun - will be attracting both the serious competitive racer and the occasional runner/walker to Cornwall Park on Sunday 14 May 2017.

WhyWomenRun provides an event that encourages women of all ages, from all walks of life and with varying levels of fitness, to enjoy the experience of completing a 5 km or 10 km race in a friendly, non-confrontational environment.

Main Events: 10 km run/walk, 5 km run/walk.

Other Activities: Junior dash (girls and boys) will be run at 10:30 AM after the women's events.

Venue: Cornwall Park Sports Association Club Rooms, Puriri Drive, Greenlane (off Campbell Crescent, Market Road). Race follows a circuit around Epsom streets, finishing back at Puriri Drive.

Date: Sunday 14 May 2017

Start Times: Walkers start at 9:00 AM, runners at 9:30 AM, junior dash at 10:30 AM. We recommend arriving at least half an hour before your start.

Safety:  Walkers/runners must keep to the left hand footpath at all times unless otherwise directed by an Event Marshal. Failure to stay on the footpaths will result in disqualification from the event

Car parking: Car parking will be available at the Alexandra Raceway car park - entrance off Campbell Cres - for $2.

Prizes:  Prizes include return tickets economy class for two to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane with 2 nights accommodation, products from Asics and lots, lots more!  Major spot prizes will be drawn at the Awards Ceremony which will commence at 11:00am. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO CLAIM ANY OF THESE PRIZES. The course director will collect numbers from any entrant who has not finished their event at that time.

Registration

  • Women's 10 km & 5 km walk/run: $20
  • Girl's (15 and under) 10 km & 5 km walk/run: $10
  • Late entries will be available on the day.
  • Late entry fee after Wednesday 6th May: $5
  • Junior Dash: Gold coin entry on the day

Registration: Come in early on the Sunday morning to the venue - please allow plenty of time!

The event starts and finishes at the club rooms of the Cornwall Park Sports Association on Puriri Drive, left onto Campbell Crescent, Manukau Road, Greenlane West, Wheturangi Road, Wapiti Avenue and Market Road

For the 5 km walk/run, complete one circuit of the course. For the 10 km walk/run, complete two circuits of the course.

Results

What a great day Sunday turned out to be, the sun was shining and everyone looked happy participating in this annual fun run.

Congratulations to everyone who participated this year and here are the times of the top place-getters in each event (times to beat next year).
