Congratulations to you all for participating in today’s second annual Auckland 8th Continent Marathon brought to you by the Auckland YMCA Marathon Club Inc.

Congratulations to local and international running legend Ciaran Faherty who took the marathon line honours today in an impressive 2:34:22, it’s always a pleasure to have Ciaran competing in our events and we wish him well for the season ahead of him.  Daniel Playne (second place in the 2018 8th Continent Half Marathon) led the rest of the mortals home to take second spot with 3:34:30 with Shaun Cooper posting 3:36:39 for third

Close behind and pushing the guys the whole time, was today’s women’s champion Katrin Gottschalk in 3:41:19.  Cynthia Sutcliffe secured second with 4:05:41 and Sue Meltzer powered home for third with 4:11:39.  All 3 ladies are regular YMCA Marathon Club runners, well done and ‘Go the Y’

There was a real battle on between the men in competing in the half.  Y runner Simon Jones, put in a huge effort on the last lap to overhaul the leaders and take the line honours, finishing in 1:34:58.  Harris Hwang kept Simon honest finishing less than a minute behind in 1:35:49 with Mark Dinsdale finishing on 1:38:04.

Sara Brown led the ladies home in the half marathon with 1:53:36, Rachel Smalley breezed in on 2:03:29 for second and Tingting Zhoa finished third on 2:05:38, well done ladies.

Like our winners, it was impressive to see you all demonstrate such great determination while competing today, not only against each other but also while battling the rain, heat and humidity, congratulations to all you heroes.

A special big thanks again to our volunteers, helpers and sponsors.  We couldn’t have held such a prestigious event in this great city without you fabulous people.  We’re sure all of today’s marshals managed to keep their energy levels up and everyone safe thanks to the snack products generously supplied by Tasti NZ.
