New Season News - 12 October 2017

Nice to see so many of our regular walkers and runners at the  Kerikeri/half-marathon Normally the weather is perfect, the course is fast (after the 1st 7km) and it provides a good chance to catch up for a chat, at the Kerikeri Domain before Prize Giving. Well not this year. Saturday morning saw the wind get up, with strong gusts and squally  showers about the time we were due to start the event. Fortunately, once we got underway, things weren't too bad. Club members like Gene Rand and Sue Meltzer managed to clock a PB over this distance. Later the weather misbehaved again and even though we had the 'Y' tent set up near the finish, it was not a pleasant place to linger for long. Let's put that event down as a character building experience.
No worries with the weather for Thursday's 10K Series in the Auckland Domain. This regular fun walk or run, which has the option of either the 5km or 10km (2 loop) course, certainly helps to build up the fitness base. The Webscorer timed results should be back online this week. Jim Wilson has returned to boast the competitive nature of the event and straight away he claims one of the Spot Prizes. Rudy Baptist looked like he was headed for a podium finish and Daniel Yip wasn't far behind. Walking or running, we have something to suit all fitness levels.

Thanks again to all our volunteers for helping out last week. If you or one of your supporters are not running, remember we do appreciate some volunteers to help with registration, time keeping or marshaling duties.  Check out the course here Series Course

On Wednesday night, the Domain was really busy with 1700 odd entrants in the Fidelity Life corporate challenge 5km event. Simpson Grierson had the top women's team and Chapman Tripp the men's. The fastest CEO finished in a very respectable 18:52. Great to see so many people working on that work/life balance.

The sponsored wine from Hitchen-wines Vineyard - boutique wine, Pokeno and the Tasti all healthy snack food, are welcome additions to our Spot Prizes. This week we have added Percutane from  www.douglas.co.nz/clinical-technology/

The Omaha half marathon is on December 10. The popular times will have official pacers to guide you through. Keep up with the regular running and walking and this challenge should be something that most of us can achieve.

The Auckland waterfront run continues. Register for the 9km   Powerade.co.nz/Challenge along Tamaki Drive. Once you have the Powerade bracelet, tag on near the Ferry building, then at the half way at Ferg's Kayaks and tag off at the finish. This the run can be done at any time.

I'm really enjoying the 10km series... Just wanted to send a note to say what a great job you guys do, and love the 'relaxed' atmosphere.
