The last of the summer wine. Well not quite. Make the most of our picturesque Auckland Domain and maintain or improve the general health, fitness and well-being. The 5 & 10K Summer Series continues each Thursday evening, no matter what the weather forecast may be. December brings the festive season and with that, a few distractions and commitments await. Hopefully we are here every Thursday, with the scheduled season Grand Finale, Thursday December 13.

Meet at the Grandstand off Park Rd and Register with our friendly time keepers before the race start. Walkers by 5.30 and runners at 6pm. You don't need to be a member of our running club, to participate. Visitors are most welcome to share the walking and running experience, with other like minded people.  Entry is by way of a $5 contribution, and that puts you in the draw for one of our fabulous Spot Prizes at 7 pm. Each entrant receives an email with their individual time and you can check your improving status on the Leaderboard. Just ask our volunteers about the course or anything else you are not sure of.

Looking ahead, there is a smorgasbord of events on offer in early 2019. By all means enjoy the festive season but be ready to hit the ground running for your targeted races. How about The Eighth Continent Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday January 20. That's 4 laps for the half and 8 laps for the full marathon. This event is open to all and the fees are a very reasonable $40 for the marathon and $30 for the half marathon. All marathon participants will receive a timed result and an electronic certificate, along with a commemorative medal. Find out more at   www.YMCAMarathon.org.nz/triple-8-quest/

Now to the running news. The November 22 results had Isozaki Kotaro (38:58 ) finished just ahead of Richard McLellan on the 10km course and Catherine Delaporte was the first woman to finish. Sam Walker was first in the 5km run. Click here for webscorer results:  www.webscorer.com/Ymcamarathon

Our regular 5km loop course does have a few tweeks over the Parnell side of the Museum. Contractors have moved the fenced off area, so continue as before along Tikoki St, until reaching the bollards opposite the Kaplan International building. Up the hill, then left around the Museum carpark loop. Follow the Exit signs back out on to Maunsell Rd, then continue up and around the Museum as usual. Check out the course here Series Course  Please beware, that there are no road closures, and participants should give way to traffic, and be courteous to other footpath users. Watch out for the low overhanging branches on the trees and remember the footpath can be uneven in places.

Here's a good news story.  Marathon World Travel Marathons.co.nz  had another fantastic group of Kiwi marathoners complete the TCS New York City Marathon a couple of weeks ago.  If you want to find out how you can be one of the 53,000 runners in 2019,  email judyw@travelmanagers.co.nz  to register your interest and find out more. Other Sponsors which help with contributions to the Spot Prizes and event running costs, include YMCA Auckland.org.nz/ Fitness Centre on Greys Ave, City providing gym membership vouchers. Tasti have those energy boosting products. Sales on Behalf.co.nz and Shoe Clinic/ponsonby-running-shoe  help out where they can and provide excellent services for their customers.
Have a look at our club's  https://www.facebook.com/ymcamarathonclub/ or website for other updates, news and training. www.ymcamarathon.org.nz/events/summer-10k-series We are always looking for volunteers to help with the race recording, marshaling and course set up. Let us know what week you could be available, so we can add you to the roster.

Well done to everyone that participated or helped out at Walking Stars.org.nz Half Marathon helping the Cancer Society with their fundraising.

I'm really enjoying the 10km series... Just wanted to send a note to say what a great job you guys do, and love the 'relaxed' atmosphere.
